Some prescription subsidy items have negative values, which can be seen in claims and when dispensing:
This occurs when the subsidy price, calculated from the current Integrated Community Pharmacy Services Agreement (ICPSA), is less than the co-pay paid by the patient. The difference, $1.13 in the ibuprofen example above, is a debited item in the claim, not a paid item.
If the same script was dispensed for an exempt patient, $3.87 will be paid in the claim, which is the same as the $5 co-pay minus the $1.13 claw-back as seen in the example above:
