The prompt "Patient Exists or NHI already in use" might show up while trying to set up a new patient or transfer an existing patient between facilities.
Patients must have been discharged from the previous care facility before they can be transferred as 1CHART only allows one ‘active’ chart per NHI number at one time. This is a safety precaution and cannot be overridden.
If a message advises that the patient is currently residing at another facility, the staff member will need to contact the facility to ensure the patient is discharged. The name and phone number of the facility will be provided in the message. 1CHART staff do not contact facilities to discharge patients on behalf of other facilities.
Note: Only Clinical Administrators, Facility Administrators, Doctors, Other Prescribers, and Pharmacists can admit/transfer patients.
