Texting
Texting from Toniq is changing. There will be phased changes over the coming months; this version introduces the ability to receive replies directly to the Toniq programs (see details under Texting Replies below).
Changes to Patient Search - Dispensary
Patient search functionality has been enhanced to allow users to find patients in different ways.
Pressing the appropriate function key, e.g. F4 Search Email, will switch out the default address field with the selected option. Below is an example where F5 Search Mobile was selected so you are able to search for a patient by their mobile phone number:
- Note: The General Option to search for patients by phone has been removed and replaced with this new functionality.
Changes to Edit Patient - Dispensary

Texting replies
Replies to text messages will appear in Toniq Dispensary and Retail. It will only show replies that have been received after the new program version has been installed.
Text replies can be found in 6 Contact and 4 Contacts/clients from the main menu of Dispensary and Retail respectively. Dispensary and Retail will alert users to new messages by displaying a red message icon on the top banner. This can be seen anywhere you are in the programs:
Message replies are only shown in their respective program. For example, you won’t see text replies to messages sent from Dispensary in the Retail program or vice versa. This is also true for multi-store sites where each site will only see replies to their own messages.
Message replies screen
When replies are received, they can be viewed by entering the contact screen. This screen will present a list of recipients with unactioned text replies in the last 30 days. When a recipient is highlighted, you will be presented with 180 days’ worth of conversational history:
- Recipient
- Message history
- Send message box
You can reply to a message directly from this screen, simply use a message template by pressing F8 or free-type a message in the message box and press enter:
If the message box is red a message will be displayed as to why you cannot send a message to this recipient.
Replies can be actioned by pressing F3 Mark Done:
- Note: this will set all replies for this recipient as done:
By default, this screen will only show unactioned recipients. However, if you want to see actioned recipients pressing F10 will toggle between actioned and unactioned recipients.
- Tip: if you want to change messages to unactioned you can double-click the message.
Quick Contact
The Quick Contact screen has been updated to make texting faster and easier. Now pressing Q Quick contact will present you with the replies screen for the chosen recipient. You will be able to send a message by pressing F8 Message tmplts or free type in the message box. If the message box is red a message will display as to why you cannot send a message to this recipient.
If you wish to email or send a message using the previous contact screen, you can press F4 Adv. Contact. This will return you to the previous contact screen:
In Dispensary Quick notes will continue to be added to the patient history for messages sent this way.
