Below is a general guide to infrastructure requirements for a business running Toniq. The Appendix contains New Zealand pharmacy-specific requirements.
Local Network
The local network is the backbone of your computer systems in the business. It needs to run optimally with as little interference and delay as possible. For this reason, we recommend a wired ethernet network running at Gigabit network speed.
Wireless Network
While Wi-Fi can be an option, reliability and interference impact the connection too much to provide a stable connection and therefore is not recommended.
Wi-Fi is ideal for stocktaking devices. Wi-Fi may also be viable for isolated cases such as laptops or workstations only used for reference or lookups.
Internet Access
General broadband internet access is required for online services, including Eftpos, ePrescribing, claiming, ordering, software and medicine file updates.
Parent/Child sites
Toniq can run over a VPN, Fibre, or Wireless link to a remote site.
Requirements
- Low latency connection (recommend sub 15ms).
- Minimum 100Mbps throughput.
- DNS resolvable.
RDP (Remote Desktop) or similar, with printer support, is an option but will require a computer at both the parent and child sites for each workstation required. Please check with your Eftpos provider that they support a connection through RDP.
Appendix
Connected Health Network
The Connected Health Network is required to access systems like electronic claiming, NHI lookup, and Special Authority access. Usually, this would be a physical box from Spark (Fortinet) or Healthlink (Sonicwall).
